Crewel Work

Crewel work picture

I love doing Crewel work. Crewel work is a beautiful, traditional and ancient form of embroidery using soft two-ply crewel wool to create a slightly raised feature on a linen twill fabric background. It is also known as Jacobean Embroidery.

This technique uses various shades within a colour normally greens, blues, browns, and reds worked with a design based on nature, traditionally based on the tree of life. Crewelwork incorporates a variety of beautiful stitches including satin stitch, French knots, stem stitch, etc. Crewelwork is ideal for all skill-levels so give it a go!!

Another crewel work picutre - this time a kit! Another picture - believe it or believe it not - this is a kit and there is nothing wrong with kits!
