'Vice
versa' - I have long been an admirer of Katherine Guerrier, a quilter
whose 'scrap' quilts make use of a glorious mixture of coloured and
patterned fabrics and of a basic patchwork shape - the 1/2" square
triangle. 'Vice Versa' is my tribute to her style and the name dervices
from the fact that I muddled my 'lights' and 'darks' and finished up
with the opposite effect to what I had intended.
It is hand pieced and machine quilted
 These
are two close ups of the 'Vice Versa' quilt. Marjorie was heard to say
at a recent Embroiderers Guild meeting 'I love a mixture of colours
- and I just throw it all in and see what happens!'
'Stars
in a Maze' I had lots of squares left over from Vice Versa and stared
to play with the light/dark effects by pinning them them up on a wall
and moving them around (inbetween doing other pieces). This year - 2008
- I decided it must be finished, and am pleased with the result. Again
it is hand pieced and machine quilted and oh yes, I still have some
squares left!

I made this cicada purse at a workshop with Sylvia Critcher in 2005. I used a combination of patchwork cotton materials and shiny silk remnants.
This quilt was shown at Region 2 of the Quilters Guild annual show at
Hever Castle, Kent in Septmeber 2008. It is made of 'long' hexagonsand
hand sewn over papers. Lucy Maria Boston (1892-1990) was a British author
noted for her longevity; she did not have her first book published until
she was over 60. She is best known for her Green Knowe books, inspired
by her home The Manor in Hemingford Grey, where the original Patchwork
of the crosses may be viewed.
This is a piece of stained glass patchwork of a dragonfly and lily which I made at a workshop with Gail Lauther in 2004.
This small square (6" x 6") was an exercise in surface decoration
with a variety of threads, beads etc which I stitched at the NEC Festival
of Quilts in Birmingham in August 2005.
It was an interesting challenge to complete in the allotted time.
This is a wall hanging which I call Clematis and I made it in 2005.
It measures approximately 34" square.
This little modern 'blackwork' book was made in an early workshop
in 1990. The 'R' stands for my husband's name - Richard - and the 'M'
is of course
for me!
